McKellen Springs Into New Magic Role

Stage great Sir Ian McKellen is clearing the vocal cords in preparation for his latest role - Zebedee from the Magic Roundabout.

Most recently known for his role as Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Sir Ian is joining a top line up in the film.

While the thespian is providing the voice for springy Zebedee, other stars lending their tones include Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue.

Williams is playing the voice of Dougal while the Aussie songstress is Florence.

Jim Broadbent provides the voice for Brian the Snail and Joanna Lumley is Ermintrude.

Leading British actors Ray Winstone and Bill Nighy are also part of the strong cast.

The original TV series was created in the 1960s by Frenchman Serge Danot.

It was adapted into English by Eric Thompson and remains a cult children's classic.

The film is being made by Pathe and is due for release next February.
