Nicole Kidman is to star in Invasion, a remake of the cult horror classic Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers.

According to Production Weekly Kidman will play Carol, a woman who uncovers a conspiracy in a small town where the inhabitants' personalities appear to be changing.

Filming is due to begin in Baltimore in October with German director Oliver Hirschbiegel.

Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers was originally released in 1956 and a remake in 1978 starred Jeff Goldblum, Brooke Adams and Donald Sutherland.

Abel Ferrara directed a version of the story based on the Jack Finney novel in 1993 with Meg Tilly and Gabrielle Anwar.

Kidman is also due to star in another remake in Wong Kar-wais' A Lady From Shanghai originally made in 1948 with Orson Welles who also directed the movie and Rita Hayworth.

The remake is due to be filmed in Russia later this year.

Set in the 1950s the movie revolves around a glamorous woman in danger and in love with a spy.
