Director Joe Johnston is to take over the helm of horror remake The Wolf Man, about a man who becomes a werewolf.

Original director Mark Romanek left the film last month - just weeks before filming was due to start.

A spokesman for Universal said Johnston, 57, who directed 2004's Hidalgo, will be confirmed as replacement director this week.

The film stars Benicio del Toro, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt.
