DiCaprio attacker gets two years in prison

A woman who slashed actor Leonardo DiCaprio's face with a broken bottle at a Hollywood party in 2005 has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Aretha Wilson, 40, pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon which left the star needing 17 stitches.

Ms Wilson's lawyer said she was likely to serve six months, as she had already spent a year in jail and would get a reduced sentence for good behaviour.

Lawyer Freddy Sayegh told reporters Ms Wilson was pleased with the outcome, while a prosecutor said DiCaprio was happy the case was resolved before it went to a full trial.

Ms Wilson had originally pleaded not guilty to the charges in August and the full trial was due to start at the beginning of November.

She had faced up to seven years in prison had she been found guilty.

Ms Wilson was accused of sneaking into a party hosted by Paris Hilton's former boyfriend, Rick Salomon, and attacking the actor with a bottle.

Police said she had mistaken DiCaprio for a former boyfriend.

Ms Wilson, who is a Canadian citizen, fled to her home country after the incident and had to be extradited to the US to face charges.

Mr Sayegh said that after his client serves her remaining time in jail, she may be deported back to Canada.
