Gomez: How I Spiced up my accent

Selena Gomez has revealed the inspiration for her cut-glass English accent in her latest film Monte Carlo (2011) - new mum Victoria Beckham.

The 18-year-old toiled for hours with a vocal expert to spice up her clipped tones for the role as a down-to-earth girl who masquerades as a spoilt British heiress while holidaying in Europe.

"We wanted (the accent) to be almost very Victoria Beckham, kind of very posh and sophisticated," Selena said.

"I had a coach for two weeks before the film, so I worked with her very closely and then we had her on set with me guiding me."

Meanwhile, the former Spice Girl is rumoured to have paid her own tribute to Selena's Disney TV show The Wizards Of Waverly Place.

New daughter Harper shares her name with a character from the show - reportedly a favourite in the Beckham household.

While filming Monte Carlo, Selena - who was in London this month to celebrate the launch of Disney Channel HD - also worked with British funnywoman Catherine Tate, who plays the heiress' aunt.

Selena said: "She was hysterical. Obviously we're not that familiar with her (in the US) but whenever she came on set everyone was very excited."

"She was amazing, she was so funny. Off camera she was always making jokes and making everyone laugh."

The actress and singer, who is dating teen heartthrob Justin Bieber, added: "I was trying hard to keep a straight face, she would try to make me laugh behind the cameras."
