The new third hour or NBC's Today performed well in its first week, enjoying far stronger ratings than its predecessor, Later Today, the New York Daily News indicated today (Monday), citing preliminary Nielsen ratings. The newly expanded Today beat Live with Regis in New York City and made a strong second-place showing against the Philbin talker in most other major markets.
