Peter Jackson hoping for third Hobbit film after There and Back Again

Peter Jackson has revealed that he hopes to extend the Lord of the Rings franchise beyond 2013's The Hobbit: There and Back Again.

Speaking to HitFix at Comic-Con, the producer and director divulged that talks with Warner Bros are under way with a view to splitting the second Hobbit movie into two.

"That's a discussion we're having, yeah," he said, referring to a potential break-up of the final movie. "We have certainly been talking to the studio about some of the material we can't film, and we've been asking them so we can do a bit more filming next year."

"Which, I don't know what would come of that, whether it'd be extended editions or whatnot. But those discussions are ongoing."

Jackson also spoke of his desire to film extra material from author JRR Tolkien's Return of the King to complete the story.

"I'd like to shoot a bunch more material that we couldn't shoot. There's so much good stuff in the appendices that we haven't been able to squeeze into these movies," he said.
