Chloe Grace Moretz has said she drew on her own experiences of bullying to portray a tormented school girl in her new movie.

Chloe stars as Carrie in a reimagining of Stephen King's classic horror novel of the same name, about a bullying victim with special powers who goes on a revenge rampage at her school prom.

Speaking on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of the film, the 16-year-old Kick-Ass star said: "I think everyone has experienced bullying at some point in their life, whether it's just someone making you feel inadequate, making you feel not skinny enough, making you feel not pretty enough, your hair is not enough good enough."

"I think everyone has had a form of bullying in some way, whether it's physical abuse or mental abuse."

The young actress said she was keen to make the role her own, after it was portrayed by Sissy Spacek in the 1976 classic.

"It was a very big deal. I went four weeks ahead of filming just to figure out who Carrie is, what her look is, the idea of Carrie."

"I think that what made me so excited about Carrie was being able to embody that sense of vulnerability and the sense of who Carrie is. I really wanted to portray that and take my own spin."

Addressing the violence and physicality of the role, Chloe added: "It's a very physical movie, I went through a lot of physical stress making it but I think that's all part and parcel and if I was going through that as an actor imagine what Carrie was going through."
