Ridley Scott has confirmed that the sequel to his 'Alien' prequel 'Prometheus' is indeed moving forward into development.

The director, while out and about promoting his new thriller 'The Counselor', confirmed that a script is being written.

Thought to be called 'Paradise', after Milton's poem 'Paradise Lost', the sequel has been in a state of flux since writer Damon Lindelof, the 'Lost' and 'Star Trek' scribe, parted ways with Scott following the criticised first movie.

"Prometheus is being written right now," he told the press conference. "Number two."

Last we heard Jack Paglen - the writer behind forthcoming thriller 'Transcendence', being directed by Christopher Nolan's cinematographer Wally Pfister – had been hired over the summer to write the screenplay, but there has been little more information since then.

It's not known where or in which direction the story will head, though last we saw, Noomi Rapace's character Shaw was blasting off in search of the Engineers and their home world.

The first film was picked apart by 'Alien' fans, some buying in to the origin story, others not so much.

Meanwhile, the news for Scott's latest, the Cormac McCarthy-written 'The Counselor', so far appears not to be good.

Released in the US this weekend, the film has failed to perform, bringing in a roundly disappointing $8 million (£4.9 million), towards its admittedly modest $25 million budget, despite a dazzling cast and opening on over 3000 screens.

Poor reviews may not have helped , though it was thought that it's cast – comprising Michael Fassbender, Penélope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem and Brad Pitt – might have pulled in better numbers.
