Eckhart: I like Frankenstein scars.

Aaron Eckhart has revealed he embraced Adam Frankenstein's facial scars.

The actor - who sports a number of long marks on his face in his portrayal of Frankenstein's monster in fantasy I, Frankenstein (2014) - said: "I like the scarring. I feel like it makes sense to me."

The 45-year-old didn't mind spending hours in the make-up chair for his new look, as it gave him more time to work on his monstrous alter-ego.

"When you're sitting in make-up for two to three hours you get to know your face intimately, with the scarring and the body, and you get to see why this one comes here," he continued.

"It's helpful because you can take that time to get into character and this is a man/monster who's had a sort of unfortunate upbringing. He's rejected by his father and he's cast out to roam the earth without a friend so you're sort of engendering all those feelings."

Aaron also had to undergo six months' worth of training for the role.

"I trained very hard in how to use sticks and how to fight with my hands. It's good when you make these movies, you have to learn how to fall, take a punch and all that kind of stuff so it comes in handy," he explained.

"I remember when I did Erin Brockovich, I had to get into shape and I thought, if I'm going to dedicate so much of my time preparing for a movie, I'm going to learn a different skill. For that, I did boxing."

"For Erased, I did MMA. I was wrestling around in a park in Malibu with a French special forces trainer who'd beat the c**p out of me. We were eventually kicked out of the par k."
