Tatum 'to direct Nesbo's The Son'.

Channing Tatum could be making his directorial debut with crime thriller The Son.

The Magic Mike star, who has made no secret of his directing dreams, could be heading behind the cameras on the big screen adaptation of Jo Nesbo's novel.

He is already in talks to produce the movie with his producing partner Reid Carolin for Warner Bros, after meeting the Norwegian author and producer Kevin McCormick, reported Deadline.

It is not certain if Channing would also star in The Son, which is about a young man who escapes from prison to try to avenge his father's murder.

While the rights to a number of Jo's novels have been bought by film studios, including The Snowman with Martin Scorsese attached and Blood On Snow which Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Espinosa are linked to, none have yet come to fruition.

Since showing off his acting chops in films like Magic Mike (2012), Side Effects and 21 Jump Street (2012), Channing has been keen to expand his filmmaking horizons by producing upcoming sequel 22 Jump Street (2014) and Magic Mike 2, which is in the pipeline.

The 33-year-old, who voiced Superman in The Lego Movie, will next star in crime drama Foxcatcher, the Wachowski siblings' sci-fi film Jupiter Ascending and 22 Jump Street.
