Ridley Scott's revealed that Prometheus 2 title.

The official title for Prometheus 2 is going to be Alien: Paradise Lost.

Director Sir Ridley Scott dropped the bombshell in a promotional interview for The Martian - and seemed to distance his sequel from the original Prometheus.

"Really it's going to be called Alien: Paradise Lost, so Prometheus 2 it's not really going to be,"

In terms of the title's obvious connection to John Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost, Scott clarified: "It sounds intellectual. There's a similarity to it, but that's where it stops."

The use of Alien in the sequel's name is particularly curious, since Scott recently said that the infamous Xenomorph wouldn't be seen in his Prometheus follow-up.

"It won't be in the next one. It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the Alien franchise," he insisted.

Alien: Paradise Lost is due in cinemas in 2017 and will reportedly contain an entirely new breed of alien monster.
