Biography

RICHARD ROUNDTREE recent work includes Corky, Seven, with Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt, the critically acclaimed Once Upon A Time…When We Were Colored and the box-office hit, George of the Jungle.

Roundtree was seen earlier this year in a second generation Shaft movie, directed by John Singleton. In the seventies, Roundtree played the private detective and supercop hero in a trio of movies Shaft, Shaft in Africa and Shaft's Big Score, as well as the spin-off television series.

He went on to star in City Heat with Clint Eastwood, Diamonds with Robert Shaw, Man Friday, with Peter O'Toole, Game for Vultures, with Richard Harris and Inchon, with Sir Laurence Olivier.

Roundtree played Booker T. Washington in the top rated TV movie Having Our Say. His television credits include Christmas In Connecticut, directed by Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Bonanza MOWS, several episodes of Roc as Charles Dutton's gay uncle and appearances as a series regular in Outlaws, Buddies, and Rescue 77.

He was nominated by the NAACP for an Image Award as Best Actor in a Drama Series for his work as Mr.Thomas on 413 Hope Street.

Roundtree attended the University of Southern Illinois on a football scholarship and is a former member of New York's acclaimed Negro Ensemble Company. A succession of off-Broadway roles culminated in his starring as Jack Johnson in The Great White Hope.
