Biography

State and Main (2000) marks Sarah Green’s fifth collaboration with David Mamet. She recently produced Winslow Boy, The (1999) with Mamet, who wrote and directed the film, which starred Nigel Hawthorne and Jeremy Northam. She was co-producer of Spanish Prisoner, The (1997), scripted and directed by Mamet and starring Campbell Scott and Steve Martin and on American Buffalo (1996), written by Mamet based on his play, and starring Dustin Hoffman, Dennis Franz and Sean Nelson. Green produced another of Mamet’s play adaptations, Oleanna (1994) also directed by Mamet. Green most recently produced Karyn Kusama’s Girlfight (2000), which shared the Jury Prize and won Best Director at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival.

With Maggie Renzi, Green produced three pictures for writer/director John Sayles. The Secret of Roan Inish was named one of the top ten independent releases of 1995; Passion Fish (1992) was nominated for two Academy Awards®, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actress for Mary McDonnell; and City of Hope (1991) won the Grand Prix at the Tokyo Film Festival and the Critic’s Award in Edinburgh. Green first worked with Sayles as Assistant Production Manager on Matewan (1987) and Eight Men Out (1988).

Green also produced the Emmy Award-winning production of ‘Andre’s Mother’, written by Terrence McNally and featuring Richard Thomas. ‘Andre’s Mother’ was named Best Television Movie of 1990 by the National Board of Review.
