Jamie Blanks - Details

Biography

Australian born JAMIE BLANKS made his feature directing debut with the 1988 box office smash Urban Legend (1998)

Blanks graduated from film school at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia, with a solid collection of short films and music videos in his portfolio. Among them was "Silent Number," which won funding from the Australian Film Commission and distribution by the Australian Film Institute.

Blanks went on to become head of Post-Production at director Fred Schepisi's Film House where he edited and directed television commercials. His self-funded three-minute promotional trailer based on the script "I Know What You Did Last Summer" did not land him that film's directorship but the trailer and his near encyclopedic knowledge of the horror/thriller genre quickly attracted Hollywood attention, leading to his assignment on Urban Legend (1998)
