Shawn Slovo was born in South Africa and came to England in 1964 with her politically exiled parents. Her professional association with producer Tim Bevan and Working Title Films began in 1987 when they produced World Apart, A (1988), her first screenplay, which won the Jury Prize and the Ecumenical and Best Actress awards at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival, and the 1988 BAFTA Best original Screenplay award. She lives in London.
