The Loft (2014) - Movie PosterMisogyny comes home to roost for five high-flying Lotharios in THE LOFT, released on digital platforms from June 8th, 2015 and on DVD from June 15th 2015 courtesy of Signature Entertainment.

The Loft is a remake of a Belgian thriller of the same name. This Hollywood remake is no doubt slicker and more polished featuring Hollywood stars, but is it better? Well it’s directed by the same Belgian director, Erik Van Looy so he retains ownership of his work. And it also includes a role for Matthias Schoenaerts reprising his role from the original film. It’s beginning to feel as though this remake is superfluous to requirements.

Five middle-aged men, all married, but looking for extra-marital affairs club together to rent a loft apartment for bedding their flings. But the film opens with a grisly scene… a mystery blonde woman is found lying in the blood-soaked bed, handcuffed and very dead. None of the men claim to even know the woman so who killed her?

Starring Karl Urban (Dredd, Star Trek Into Darkness), James Marsden (X-Men, Enchanted), Wentworth Miller (Stoker, TV’s The Flash), Eric Stonestreet (TV’s Modern Family, TV’s American Horror Story), and Matthias Schoenarts (The Drop, Suite Francaise), The Loft is a story of sleazy sex, murder and intrigue.

Urban, Marsden and Stonestreet in particular are all actors that I enjoy watching, however as in this film they are all somewhat unlikable its difficult to enjoy this film. Which of them is guilty? The five men are questioned by the police. Alibis are torn apart and friendships and allegiances are tested. Has the girl committed suicide or was she murdered?

One thing is for certain, the five men are not going to come out of this the same as they began. Will they even all survive this ordeal?

Thinking of cheating? Think again.
