The 5th wave is a well directed film aimed at the young adult market it has some elements of horror and some elements of drama and also some creepy moments. It's based on the novel by Rick Yancey and directed by J Blakeson.

When aliens arrive at Earth everybody wonders what their intentions are. It's soon evident that their intentions are not friendly and that they intend to destroy the human race in order to colonize the planet. As we focus on one small town we find that all the adults are mercilessly killed by what appears to be the National US Army. But it turns out that they are actually the aliens who are able to take on human form. After several waves of attack from the aliens a fifth even more lethal wave is about to hit.

The aliens manipulate the youth of the small town. They train them to be military themselves fitted with devices to enable them to see which humans are in fact aliens. The young militia go out on a raid and end up killing humans only later do they find out that they were human having been implanted with microchips.

The film discusses the idea are children manipulated by adults and this will naturallyc appeal to teenage viewers and strike a chord of truth with most.

The supporting cast of children, young adult and adult actors are good including Nick Robinson (TVs Melissa and Joey), Ron Livingston (Sex and the City), Maria Bello (Third Person) and Liev Schreiber (X-Men).
