The Death of Superman (2018) - Movie PosterAn enormous monster, known as Doomsday, leaves his subterranean lair to wreak havoc on the city. His violent rampage alerts the Justice League who team up once again to stop this threat. But who is strong enough to beat Doomsday? Only Superman.

The Death of Superman is well known to DC Comic fans as the “brawl that topped them all” where the Justice League face up to Doomsday. It’s been produced in comic book form, animated form and of course also appeared on the big screen recently.

Superman (Jerry O’Connell) Batman (Jason O’Mara), Wonder Woman (Rosario Dawson) and Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion) team up to vanquish super villain Doomsday. Rounding out the cast are Rebecca Romijn as Lois Lane and Rainn Wilson as Lex Luther. It’s an impressive voice cast including a few genre regulars.

DC Comics haven’t done well in terms of live action big budget films at the box office - in terms of takings or critical analysis, but they have been much more successful at animated releases. This animated version of a storyline that fans will have read in comics and seen before in other animated versions offers some altered plotting to allow for a different experience, so that should help to keep (all but the most purist of) fans happy and entertained.

This release precedes the 2019 release of Reign of the Supermen, which acts as a conclusion to this story. There is a welcome sneak peek of this available on the blu-ray and dvd discs. This story will include other DC characters such as Steel, Cyborg Superman, Superboy and the Eradicator.
