Succession: The Complete Series
The series was created by Jesse Armstrong who had previously found success with Peep Show and Fresh Meat. Succession is the brilliant high-stakes drama following the Roy Family and their quest for power. When the aging patriarch of one of the world’s largest media conglomerates considers retirement, his family members position themselves for a takeover. But tensions rise as corporate battles threaten to turn into a family civil war. Logan Roy, founder of media giant WayStar Royco is coming to the end of his career and is being forced to hand over the running of his huge media company to one of his children. But who will win the power struggle to take the reins?

Kendall (Jeremy Strong) is his eldest son and heir apparent – but his three siblings: sister Shiv (Sarah Snook) and brothers Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Connor (Alan Ruck), who have all, so far despite working in different areas of the company, shown little interest in actually running the media giant. But that is all about to change as a power struggle begins.

You can see the story as something akin to King Lear, or possibly the Murdoch family. Or if you’re feeling fantastical – Game of Thrones. The writing is cutting, acerbic, foul-mouthed, sharp and funny. It’s everything that The Thick of It was and more, with an American twist.

Ultimately, Succession has it all, power, politics, money...it’s all in the family in this provocative, satirical series about a highly dysfunctional dynasty. It’s drama, but it’s also comedy. Succession is an acutely observed, sharply written, binge-worthy TV series. Succession should be mentioned in the same breath as Breaking Bad and The Wire as examples of the finest TV ever made.
