Laissez-passer : Movie Review

"Epic based on the true-life stories of two French Second World War film-makers facing separate trials of conscience during the German occupation."

France has surrendered and its artists face the prospect of working for the enemy for the foreseeable future - or not working. Such is the dilemma facing assistant director Jean Devaivre and screenwriter Jean Aurenche in 1940s Paris.

Each makes a different choice, but neither loses the inner belief that he is doing right by his country and his people, while director and Gallic cinematic maestro Bertrand Tavernier makes his own choice not to judge them.
