COMPOSING THE PERFECT DINING ATMOSPHERE: THE FILM'S MUSIC

When the post production process began in late 2001, Nettelbeck began to concentrate on finding the right person to handle music for the film. This proved very challenging and frustrating.
"I searched high and low for a composer and couldn't find one," Nettelbeck remembers. "I only received a few suggestions and none of them proved to be any good for this project. "
Nettelbeck, who feels strongly that many producers underestimate the importance of music to a film, continued her relentless search to find the right composer. Finally, she turned to Manfred Eicher at ECM Records.

"I was very nervous when I showed him the rough cut. Thank God he liked the film," remembers Nettelbeck. "Collaborating with him was enlightening for me. He is a true master of his trade and he immediately understood what I was after with the film. "
Eicher was able to pull together a group of talented musicians and songs that ultimately created just the right background and atmosphere for the film. As Nettelbeck comments, "Keith Jarrett, Arvo Paert and David Darling form the musical structure of the film and compliment each other beautifully while at the same time allowing for the other songs to co-exist -- the songs by Dean Martin, Paolo Conte, Louis Prima and others. "
