Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows : Movie Review

Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows (2000) - Movie PosterHow can the sequel to one of the most hyped films of all time possibly out-do its predecessor ‘The Blair Witch Project?’ A hard act to follow yes, but with a bigger budget and the success of the first film, how could Blair Witch 2 - Book of Shadows possibly fail?

The story begins with similar patterns to the first with almost documentary style filming, but the question "is it real or not?" does not apply.

A group of young people, hoping to find the truth behind the Blair Witch legacy, travel to the town where the film was set, to embark on what they think is a relatively harmless expedition. An interesting mix of characters, each with their idiosyncrasies work well to endorse the weirdness factor of the movie. A witch, a gothic, a boy fresh from a lunatic asylum and a 'clean cut' American couple all seem to have their defined stereotypical roles, but all is not always as it seems... Throughout their journey, events spiral out of control, nobody is sure who to trust anymore. It dawns on the characters that the Blair Witch myth may be more than an imaginary movie phenomenon.

As time unfolds, it’s only a matter of time before they each meet their gruesome fate.

If shaky camera angles and home movie style is what you are hoping for, then this will disappoint. A relatively scary and gory movie - not for the faint hearted, but with all the attributes of a big blockbuster movie and the intriguing theme of the Blair Witch, this movie sequel is well worth watching.
