Hollow Man : Movie Review

A disappointingly predictable formula of yet another invisible-man film. With a bigger budget allowing stunning graphical and technical images it almost passes for impressive, but the lack of ingenuity and originality are the obvious downfalls.

A team of science boffins have been working tirelessly for months on a remarkable project funded by the Pentagon to create a formula enabling human invisibility. The foreman of the task an eccentric genius, Sebastian (Kevin Bacon) discovers the missing link in creating something they’ve only ever dreamed of. Ignoring the advice of fellow scientists, Sebastian makes a decision without the knowledge of the Pentagon, risking his life and career to become a human guinea pig for the ultimate experiment – to make him disappear!

After testing successfully on animals the team of concerned, but curious scientists get ready to participate in a venture that could prove to be revolutionary or fatal. Sebastian is injected with a concoction of chemicals, resulting in him vanishing physically. Unlike films before, the process is lengthy and gradual, enabling viewers to witness the disappearance of the human form, layer by layer.

Invisibility becomes a frightening reality for all involved. Unable render him visible, the afflicted Sebastian subjects his work colleagues to a terrifying ordeal whilst keeping them locked in the lab – suddenly death is not out of the question and a battle to save themselves begins.

With the usual attempts to catch an invisible man such as spraying him with water and steam along with other predictable attributes, confirm that maybe this film isn’t so different from the rest after all.

If amazing graphics and technicality are what you’re after, The Hollow Man has plenty to offer, but if you want to be kept on the edge of your seat wondering who will save the day, then this one is not for you!
