Gospel, The : Movie Review

Gospel, The (2005) - Movie PosterThough spiked with some uplifting, energetic gospel performances, Robert Hady's The Gospel is a mostly artless, stock movie that tells a story with contrivance and clunky melodrama.
The story involves a man who, at a younger age, rejected his father, a bishop (Clifton Powell), and the church he grew up in after his mother died. David Taylor (Boris Kodjoe) vows to never become his father, a man so involved with the Lord that his own personal life and family are deprived even when it comes to the last moments of his wife's life.
