Stardust : Movie Review

Matthew Vaughn made his reputation on violent, tough, crime movies, first as Guy Ritchie's producer on Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch and then as a director in his own right with the gritty, Daniel Craig-starring Layer Cake. In other words, he is not exactly the type of sensitive emo guy that one would expect to embrace a fairytale and yet he has with his second directorial effort, as he brings Neil Gaiman's sublime Victorian-era fantasy novel Stardust to the screen. It may not be a great movie, but as Vaughn demonstrates his versatility, there is enough pixie dust sprinkled it over it to make a mostly winning spectacle.
