Sun…Sea…Sand…and Sharks!

After a massive underwater earthquake takes place an even massiver tsunami (big wave) heads towards Malibu. Also in the mix are a group of evil prehistoric-looking goblin sharks that were disturbed by the earthquake – having presumably survived for millennia in the depths of the ocean. A group of Baywatch-intelligent lifeguards (Doug, Heather and Barb along with knockout new arrival Jenny) evacuate the beach but still manage to get themselves stuck in their life-guard hut.

Mega Shark in Malibu DVDAnd that’s it, from then on it’s attack of the killer sharks. Can they hold out until rescue comes? Has anyone thought to phone the lifeguard? Oh no sorry they are the lifeguards…. Guess they’re screwed then?! Yep, pretty much. Think Deep Blue Sea but with a smaller budget and you’re pretty close.

The direction (David Lister – from Red Dwarf?? Ha!) and acting is just about passable for this sort of film and there is plenty of fun to be had as the team try desperately to survive. The sharks are less than convincing to be fair but then they are prehistoric sharks so who knows exactly what they should look like or how they should act?

Just put your brain in neutral and enjoy this one for the silly fun that it is. I personally love shark attack films so I actually quite enjoyed this Jaws-on-a-budget romp. Plenty of teeth, blood, screaming and even a few pretty sexy looking lifeguards to ogle – male and female of course… I appreciate ‘hot’ regardless of gender.

Will the sea will turn blood-red when these nasty bone-armoured goblin sharks gnash their razor-sharp teeth or will our good-looking cast live to bronze another day?
