Death Race Inferno 3Was Carl Lucas killed at the end of Death Race II? All will be revealed… Of course he wasn’t… and as Death Race relocates to the deserts of Africa, Lucas, aka Frankenstein, is still just one win away from gaining his freedom. But before the race can start there is a new battle – “Navigator Wars” which is the most brutal and gory part of the film, in which female prisoners fight it out for the chance to be in the Death Race as a navigator.

The Death Races are pretty much the same as before with a few minor differences in the rules. The speed and killings are unabated and it’s testosterone-driven stuff. The action is well directed and shot. This film might be fairly low budget and released straight to DVD, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable… and if it does then your expectations are set too high!

The acting and direction is all of a perfectly acceptable standard for this sort of film, the dialogue can be corny at times but that’s to be expected, in fact often it’s part of the fun of watching this sort of film.

I’d enjoyed the first film with Jason Statham and was disappointed that he wasn’t appearing in either of the sequels but honestly Luke Goss does a fine job in the role filling in for the better well known but no better actor Statham. I’d not watched the second film, but happily went out and bought it after watching Inferno to see what I’d missed.

Hardened convicts fighting each other in blood-spattered hand-to-hand combat and racing in muscle cars with sexy navigators in winner-takes-all high-octane races across the Kalahari desert – what more could you want?

Inferno is another exciting and fun, if mindless and at times gory, instalment in the Death Race series.
