Lots of great movies in our shortlist - Love Actually, Bad Santa, The Holiday, Die Hard, Gremlins, Jack Frost, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Scrooged, Prancer, White Christmas, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation etc, but in the end we decided on these 10. 7. A Christmas Carol (1951) aka. Scrooge

There were at least 11 versions of this movie prior to Alastair Sim playing the miserly Scrooge, but in our opinion there is no better performance.

Step aboard the thunderous Polar Express to visit the North Pole, see Santa Claus and perhaps receive the first gift of Christmas. Magical Christmas fun.

After accidentally getting to the North Pole, this man sized Elf tries to discover who he really is and where he is really from, ending with him single-handedly win over his family and save Christmas in New York.

3. Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

A remark from the 1947 classic, but Attenborough and the rest of the cast make it their own. The spirit of Christmas is captured perfectly in this magical movie.

2. Jingle All The Way (1996)

Not the usual Schwarzenegger role, but a brilliantly funny movie and a reminder as to what lengths parents will go to please their children. After all, Christmas is for the children isn’t it?

1. It's A Wonderful Life (1946)

One of the most popular and heart warming films ever made and classic Christmas viewing. A great lesson to everyone that no matter what the life is like that you have, it is a wonderful life.
