When teenage computer whiz David Lightman (Matthew Broderick) hacks into a strange computer, he mistakes it for a game company's development server. Intent on being the first to try out what he thinks are prototype games, David engages the computer in something called Global Thermonuclear War. Unfortunately, he has actually hacked into a secret new Department of Defense computer that controls the United States' entire nuclear arsenal, and the computer isn't playing games.
