Returning home after fighting in the Civil War, Jesse James (Colin Farrell) finds his homestead being threatened by greddy railroad baron Thaddeus Rains (Harris Yulin), and his muscle Allan Pinkerton (Timothy Dalton). Unwilling to sell his land, Jesse forms a gang and hits Rains where it really hurts - in the wallet. Jesse and his gang begin robbing banks and trains that are home to Rains' payroll. Soon Jesse and the gang are outlaws with a price on their heads but revered as heroes by the public.
