Deputy Bob (2003) - Synopsis

A young stockbroker, TIMMY (JAMIE BOYCE) owes money to a redneck SHERIFF MCGURGENS (MARK MOORE). And he has no idea how he's going to save himself from the deep financial hell he's in. Besides his huge debt, he also seems to carry a burden on his shoulder. The only thing in his life that he loves, besides broccoli, is his pretty French girlfriend AGNES (MELISSA FRANKEL), except there's one problem. She doesn't speak English.

He gets a call from an old scatterbrained colleague of his deceased father's, a PROFESSOR SMITH (HUGH POPENOE). Smith tells him that his father, DR. O'BRIEN (SEAN BOYCE), a well-known scientist who during his lifetime had been experimenting on clams in the hopes of discovering a cure for cancer, has left some very important documents behind. Smith thinks those documents are worth a lot of money and suggests that they might be in the O'Brien family mountain cabin in the Angeles National Forest. The only occupant of that cabin is Timmy's long haired recluse brother, MALCOLM (JOHN T. PROCTOR) whom he hasn't seen in years.

So Timmy decides to go after the documents. Personally, he doesn't place much value on his father's legacy. But if they're valuable, at least he can make some money and repay the Sheriff. But strange things seem to happen to Timmy as soon as he hits the mountains. A simple excursion turns out to be the most surreal experience of his life, complete with a bizarre cast of characters, besides the Sheriff, including DEPUTY BOB (SCOTT CORLEY), the philosophical treasure hunter, FRED (ERNIE GARCIA) and a SAMURAI who rescues him from the dangerous forces at play around him.

Through the SAMURAI, we go back twenty years to Timmy's childhood in a quaint small Cape Cod town. What was Dr. O'Brien's legacy? And what does Professor Smith really want? Who is Deputy Bob?

Timmy wakes up and realizes the truth of his life. And the truth sets him free.
