Chris Pratt in talks to play Simon Templar in The Saint.

Chris Pratt is in early talks to lead a relaunch of Paramount Pictures action franchise The Saint.

Pratt's deal is not closed. He became a worldwide star after headlining Disney-Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies and "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018) and its upcoming sequel (2019). He also starred in "Passengers" with Jennifer Lawrence, and long-running NBC sitcom "Parks and Recreation".

The studio secured a deal for book series rights in 2016 and set up a producing deal with Lorenzo di Bonaventura with the goal of starting an action franchise.

Created by Leslie Charteris and originating as a series of books starting in the late 1920s, The Saint revolves around Simon Templar, a Robin Hood-type criminal known as The Saint, who goes after the scourges of the Earth, corrupt politicians, war profiteers, drug runners to benefit his country and the greater good.

The books have been adapted numerous times, most notably with the 1960s TV series starring the late Roger Moore as Templar. Val Kilmer also took on the role in the 1997 feature film from director Phillip Noyce.
