Natalie Portman's 'Lucy in the Sky' Lands October Release.

Natalie Portman's "Lucy in the Sky" will be released, in limited theaters, on Oct. 4, 2019, giving it an awards-bait slot in the calendar.

The Fox Searchlight drama will open on the same day as fellow Fox pic The Woman in the Window, which is preparing to move to 2020. Disney inherited both films when buying much of 21st Century Fox.

Natalie Portman stars as an astronaut who returns to Earth after an extended time is space and begins an obsessive affair with a fellow astronaut, played by Jon Hamm. The plot is loosely based on the true story of Nasa astronaut Lisa Nowak, who was arrested in 2007 for the attempted murder of fellow astronaut Colleen Shipman, who was romantically involved with astronaut William Oefelein.

Hawley, Brian C. Brown and Elliott Diguiseppi wrote the script, which is inspired by real-life Nasa Captain Lisa Nowak.

The other movies opening that day are Joaquin Phoenix's "Joker", Benedict Cumberbatch's "The Current War" and Pedro Almodovar's Cannes Competition selection "Pain and Glory".
