Greyhound: Tom Hanks WWII Movie Gets Release Date at Apple TV+

Apple announced Tom Hanks' WWII naval drama Greyhound will be released on Apple TV+ on July 10, after acquiring the film from Sony Pictures.

Greyhound was slated to be released theatrically by Sony Pictures, but Deadline revealed on May 19 that the uncertainty over the Covid-19 theater closures prompted a worldwide rights deal in what became Apple’s biggest investment in a feature film, at around $70 million. The pic is produced by Playtone Production, FilmNation Entertainment and Sony Pictures/Stage Six Films.

Written by Hanks and directed by Aaron Schneider, Greyhound follows Capt. Ernest Krause (Hanks) as he leads an international convoy of 37 Allied ships in his first command on a U.S. destroyer during World War II. The group crosses the treacherous ocean as they are pursued by wolf packs of Nazi U-boats.
