Idris Elba To Star In A New Spy Film From Producer Simon Kinberg & Apple.

Apple has won an auction to become the studio behind an upcoming, untitled spy film that will star Idris Elba.

The film will be set in Africa, but beyond that, there's very little info. Kinberg wrote and produced Mr. & Mrs. Smith, so he has a history with romantic spy thrillers.

Elba will produce alongside Kinberg and his Genre Films partner Audrey Chon, and Apple beat out several other suitors for the project. Kinberg was recently at the center of another hot auction that saw Netflix acquire his heist script Here Comes the Flood, which will be directed by Jason Bateman.

Elba is one of the biggest stars in the world, having appeared in a number of high-profile projects recently including "Hobbs & Shaw" and the much-maligned "Cats". He’s next expected to appear in the festival film, "Concrete Cowboy", and he has signed on to star in a new Netflix project, as well as the upcoming feature film from George Miller.

The untitled Idris Elba film is just one of the spy flicks that Kinberg has been working on, with his next feature being the female-led ensemble action film, "355", which is set to star Jessica Chastain, [Lupita Nyong’o], Penelope Cruz, Diane Kruger, and Fan Bingbing.
