Apple Acquires Russo Brothers' Tom Holland-Led Drama.

Cherry, the much-awaited film from directors Joe and Anthony Russo has been acquired by Apple Original Films.

Cherry tells the true-life story of author Nico Walker, a former Army medic who returned from Iraq with extreme un-diagnosed PTSD and fell into opioid addiction and began robbing banks. Walker was caught in 2011 and is scheduled to be released in 2020. The novel has been branded as a sort of hybrid of Jesus' Son and Reservoir Dogs; a story about love, war, bank robberies, and heroin.

Apple Original Films reportedly purchased Cherry for just over $40 million. In addition to a reunion with Tom Holland, the project is also the first movie for the Russo Brothers since Endgame hit theaters in 2019. Along with Holland, Cherry also stars Ciara Bravo, Kelli Burglund , Jack Reynor , Forrest Goodluck , Jeff Wahlberg , Michael Gandolfini , Kyle Harvey and Thomas Lennon.

The Russo Brothers won the auction for Cherry, which Nico Walker wrote while serving time in prison for his crimes. He completed his sentence earlier this year and is now out. The auction of the novel was so in-demand that Walker ran out of phone call minutes while still behind bars. However, the Russo Brothers were able to secure the story, which they quickly went to work on after finishing the grueling productions of Infinity War and Endgame.
