Mads Mikkelsen joins Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge in Indiana Jones 5.

Mads Mikkelsen has been cast in "Indiana Jones 5" and will star opposite Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge in the latest installment of the popular adventure franchise.

Plot details, along with information about who Mads Mikkelsen will be playing, have yet to be revealed. What we know is that James Mangold will be directing the movie after taking the reins from Steven Spielberg, the director behind all four previous installments. Spielberg will still be on board to produce alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel. John Williams, the composer who worked on the score of all four prior movies, also returns to compose Indiana Jones 5.

"Indiana Jones 5" has been delayed numerous times. It is currently set to release in theaters on July 29, 2022, more than four decades after "Raiders of the Lost Ark" debuted in 1981. The previous Indy films, including 1984's "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and 1989's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade", have brought in nearly $2 billion at the worldwide box office.

Mikkelsen is no stranger to big-budget franchise filmmaking. He’s appeared in very memorable roles in the James Bond franchise ("Casino Royale"), the Marvel Cinematic Universe ("Doctor Strange"), the "Silence of the Lambs" extended universe, and of course, taking over for Johnny Depp in the upcoming 'Harry Potter' spinoff film, "Fantastic Beasts 3".
