Ethan Hawke Joins Julia Roberts In Netflix's Leave The World Behind.

Ethan Hawke and Myha’la Herrold are set to join the cast of the upcoming Netflix thriller Leave the World Behind.

Hawke and Herrold will join a cast that already includes Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali in the film directed by Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail. The film will adapt Rumaan Alam’s novel Leave the World Behind, with Ryan Kiera Armstrong and Charlie Evans also on board the Netflix project.

Plot details for the adaptation are under wraps for now, but the synopsis for the book is as follows:

Amanda and Clay head out to a remote corner of Long Island expecting a vacation: a quiet reprieve from life in New York City, quality time with their teenage son and daughter, and a taste of the good life in the luxurious home they've rented for the week. But a late-night knock on the door breaks the spell. Ruth and G. H. are an older Black couple - it's their house, and they've arrived in a panic. They bring the news that a sudden blackout has swept the city. But in this rural area - with the TV and internet now down, and no cell phone service - it's hard to know what to believe.

Should Amanda and Clay trust this couple - and vice versa? What happened back in New York? Is the vacation home, isolated from civilization, a truly safe place for their families? And are they safe from one another?

For Hawke, this marks the next big project in a year that looks to be very busy for the popular actor. Hawke will star in Marvel Studios’ upcoming series Moon Knight, and will also be a part of Robert Eggers’ highly anticipated next film The Northman, as well as appearing in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out 2, which is also set to release on Netflix. Herrold broke out in her role on HBO’s Industry, and will also appear in the upcoming A24 slasher film Bodies, Bodies, Bodies.
