SIR ANTHONY HOPKINS had watchmakers working around the clock on a $30,000 (£20,000) timepiece - after he dropped it a week before it was to be auctioned.

The actor agreed to give his AUDEMARS PIGUET piece up for a charity watch auction this week (23OCT00) to raise money for ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER's INNER CITY GAMES FOUNDATION - but accidentally broke it days before.

Luckily expert repairmen managed to fix the timepiece in time, and it sold for $30,000 (o20,000).
