Animal Activists Dog Disney

A Las Vegas-based animal activist, Ann Herrington, is organizing a campaign to force Walt Disney Co. to add a disclaimer to its upcoming 102 Dalmatians warning audiences that Dalmatians can often be difficult pets to manage and may not tolerate small children.

Herrington, who heads Media Partners for Pets and Dalmatian Rescue Las Vegas, organized a demonstration outside Disney's studios in Burbank Monday, telling reporters that many Dalmatians adopted following the 1996 release of 101 Dalmatians wound up in pounds and had to be destroyed. Her remarks were corroborated by Bob Ballenger, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Control.

Ballenger told the Los Angeles Times: "After the movie, I noticed there were a lot more (unwanted) Dalmatians. ... The same thing happened with Chihuahuas after the Taco Bell commercial."
