Kevin Bacon Joins 'Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley'.

Kevin Bacon is set to join Eddie Murphy in "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley" which is currently in production for Netflix.

Bacon’s role in the film is unknown as of now, but he’ll join a production that is already underway, with filming having begun earlier this year on the highly anticipated film. Luckily for Bacon, his background in the world of crime series is extensive, having starred in The Following as well as in the ongoing Showtime crime series City On A Hill.

Mark Molloy is directing, while Murphy, Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman are producing. Will Beall penned the script.

Jerry Bruckheimer had produced the first two films with his former partner, the late Don Simpson, but did not return for the third film of the franchise.

Murphy returns in the role of Detroit cop Axel Foley, who visits Beverly Hills in the first film to solve the murder of his childhood friend. On orders from their chief, Sergeant John Taggart (Ashton) and Detective Billy Rosewood (Reinhold) attempt to follow Axel around town to monitor him when he refuses to stay away from the case. Pinchot played art gallery salesman Serge, a minor role in the first film that expanded in the third due to the character's popularity among fans. The first film, released in 1984, became the highest-grossing movie of the year and spawned a pair of sequels with Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) and Beverly Hills Cop III (1994).

The series had gone from Paramount to Netflix back in 2019 and will likely be released through the service along with limited theatrical dates. No release date has been set yet. This will be following Eddie Murphy’s previous Netflix success, the Rudy Ray Moore biopic Dolemite is My Name, and the other prolonged Murphy sequel Coming 2 America, released by Paramount on Amazon Prime.
