Accepting a lifetime achievement award at the Venice Film Festival Wednesday night, Clint Eastwood indicated that he is considering retiring.

His remarks were surprising, particularly given the fact that earlier in the day he had told reporters that he felt as if he were in the middle of his career, not the end.
