Wonder Boys Set For Re-Release Today

Director Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential) is expressing thanks to Paramount for its decision to re-release his Wonder Boys, starring Michael Douglas, with a brand new marketing campaign in 10 cities today (Wednesday).

The film, which received much critical praise but bombed at the box office, is presumably being showcased for Oscar consideration. (Paramount Vice Chairman Rob Friedman has acknowledged that no studio has ever successfully re-released a movie that originally flopped.) Hanson told today's New York Daily News: "It's unusual for a studio to admit making a mistake, unless there's a federal regulatory commission forcing them to do it. ... It's rare, but it's a great thing."
