Antonio Banderas Says He Would Love To "Pass the Torch" to Tom Holland in a 'Zorro' Reboot.

Antonio Banderas reveals he wants a new Zorro movie co-starring Tom Holland, wanting to pass on the torch of the action hero to his Uncharted costar.

"Yes, I would, I would consider that possibility, why not?" Banderas said when asked about returning for a potential follow-up. "If they called me to do ‘Zorro,’ I would do what Anthony Hopkins did for me, which is to pass the torch."

Who should the torch go to in Banderas’ opinion? He put his vote down for Tom Holland, who he recently starred alongside in Sony's "Uncharted", based on the popular Playstation video game series.

"I did ‘Uncharted’ with him, and he’s so energetic and fun," Banderas said of Holland’s acting style. "He’s got this spark, too. Why not?"

Whether Holland gets that call remains to be seen. In recent years, there have been various reports of Zorro getting rebooted, and one such project is reportedly happening at Disney+ with That '70s Show star Wilmer Valderrama. On The Drew Barrymore Show in May, Valderrama teased that the reboot would be a "Zorro for this generation." Perhaps it's not too late for Banderas to get a cameo, even if his choice actor of Holland isn't the person playing the new Zorro.

Banderas's next role will be returning to voice Puss in Boots in the sixth film in the Shrek franchise, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, in theaters Dec. 21. He also will have a part in the currently-untitled fifth Indiana Jones movie, though it's unknown what character he'll be playing. Tom Holland is set to star in a biopic about actor and dancer Fred Astaire, and has reportedly closed a deal to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a fourth Spider-Man movie.
