Inside Out's Mindy Kaling Confirms She Won't Return for the Sequel.

Mindy Kaling, who starred as Disgust in Inside Out, confirms she will not be returning for Inside Out 2. The original Inside Out focuses on the story of Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), and Disgust, the central emotions of Riley (Kaitlyn Dias), an 11-year-old hockey player who struggles to keep her emotions in line after a move to California that disrupts her entire emotional state.

While speaking to TheWrap about her new HBO Max series "Velma", Kaling said that she wouldn’t be returning for the follow-up film, this time directed by "Onward" head of story Kelsey Mann and written, once again, by Meg LeFauve.

She additionally stressed that she is not a part of the movie "right now". Kaling’s involvement could change depending on whether the story takes a different form or, of course, they reach an agreement on compensation.

Announced at the D23 Expo in 2022, Inside Out 2 will focus on Riley's life as a teenager and introduce more emotions than the five previous ones of Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust. The Good Dinosaur's Kelsey Mann will replace Pete Docter as the sequel's director. Additionally, Toy Story 4's Mark Nielsen will produce. Inside Out 2 marks the eighth sequel Pixar has completed, with Toy Story follow-up films being the earliest and most recent entries.
