Is Light To Flicker Out?

The Guiding Light, the longest-running soap opera on television, may be about to bite the dust, the New York Post reported today (Monday), citing no sources. The Post observed that the show, which debuted on radio in 1937 and moved to television in 1952, is now the lowest-rated soap on the air and is likely to end its run at the end of next year when its current contract expires. The newspaper observed that Emmy-winning headwriter Claire Labine, who was brought in only last August in an effort to save the show, announced last week that she would leave as soon as a replacement can be found.
