Anne Hathaway and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Michaela Coel will star in Mother Mary, an "epic pop melodrama" that David Lowery is directing for A24, the Oscar-winning studio behind Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The movie will follow a fictional musician (Hathaway) as she gets into a romantic relationship with her legendary fashion designer (Coel). No other details about the plot were shared.
David Lowery will helm from his own script and produce alongside Toby Halbrooks and James M. Johnston. Jeanie Igoe of Homebird Productions and Jonas Katzenstein, Maximilian Leo and Jonathan Saubach of Filmproduktion will also produce.
Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX, two of the biggest pop musicians and writers working today, are contributing original songs for the film.
Anne Hathaway has had roles in films such as "Armageddon Time" and the forthcoming "She Came to Me" and "Eileen". She also had a prominent role in the Apple TV+ series, "WeCrashed". Coel recently showed up in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever", but she's probably best known for her TV work in series such as "I May Destroy You", "Chewing Gum", and "Black Earth Rising".
With production set to kick off in Germany, hopefully we could see a premiere by next year.
