A sequel to Uncharted is confirmed to be in the works. The news follows the previous feature film getting released in 2022.
The sequel was confirmed by Sony's president of international distribution, Steven O'Dell, at the 2024 CineEurope trade show. It was included as part of a list of Sony Pictures movies that are currently in development. There's not much else known about the sequel beyond that it's now officially on the board for Sony's list of upcoming projects.
Wahlberg shared the last update on the sequel in a interview back in February. He said that a screenplay had just been turned in at that point, and he hinted that production wouldn't be too far away, as he was told to go ahead and start growing a mustache.
"Actually, I just got a call today that they got the script in. I can't grow a real beard and mustache, but they said, 'Start growing your mustache. It's gonna take awhile,'" Wahlberg said. "I'd be interested to see what the story's like, and where that adventure takes us. But I'm excited; I know audiences really loved the first one, so we'll see."
The Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg-led early 2022 film adapted the acclaimed and popular PlayStation video game series into a movie that received mixed reviews.
However it worked well for the studio – audience polls were very good, and it grossed $400 million worldwide on a reported $120 million budget.
