U.K Nets Propose U.S -Style Political Debates

Britain's two leading television networks, the public-supported BBC and the advertiser-supported ITV, have jointly urged the leaders of the country's three main political parties to participate in two live TV debates during the next major election.

The two networks said that they were "setting aside the usual trench warfare" in making the joint proposal, under which one of the debates would be carried by the BBC, moderated by newsman David Dimbleby, while the other would be carried by ITV, moderated by his brother, Jonathan. The two hosts are the sons of legendary British broadcast journalist Richard Dimbleby.
